Emergency Discussion

Karla introduced Nicole Smolders, the WIBC  liaison for the Javea Women's Shelter, who filed an emergency report for funding of  €450, to help a woman to get out of the Shelter and into her own apartment. The application was prepared by Amparo Alemany, who is the Social Worker for the Shelter.

A discussion took place on whether we should involve all 400 of our members to be part of the decision making process when "emergency' funding requests are made, and how this could be done.

Outcome

1.   Payment of €450 as requested, agreed unanimously. Unlikely this can be refunded, as this will be used for a final months rent if/when the family moves.

2.    Information to be available to members, but not on open Website.

3.   Guidelines/Protocol for appropriate processing and quick response when requests are received – small team to be agreed, to get this underway initially.

4.    Nicole, Valerie and a cheque signatory (to be named) was agreed.

5.   Ana Vasbinder who joined us, thought these emergencies may occur 3-4 times per year, and reminded us that all legal and psychological needs/fees are met. In this case, Generalitat are paying 30% of family rent (not usual), & can supply food vouchers when needed. Nb Max’ time in Refugio-6 months.

6.   We must bear in mind we are looking to help 3 areas – Denia, Javea, Calpe. Money to be distributed between all, as moneis raised from across these communities. NOTE: Calpe still has not prepared a Shelter – but would like assistance with an domestic violence poster / marketing campaign.

Report from Helen – Lasertec.

  • They propose to distribute boxes for collection of empty/used ink cartridges, which can be re-cycled . The money raised to be donated to WIBC for our cause – Assistance to families in need as a result of domestic violence.  Helen will prepare a full report for website.

  • The worth to us of each cartridge could be as much as E1 - so, please bring them with you or arrange collection for each meeting, and inform your work colleagues/friends that they can now help us in more ways to raise money.

  • NB Cartridges most useful are Hewlett Packard and Lexmark - Also TONER cartridges.
