MEETING MINUTES

Monday 5th June, Calpe

Finance Committee Report:

Welcome to Chrissy Nossell and Val Reeve, two of the three members of the new Finance Committee who have taken over from Mary Lucas who was Treasurer for the last 2 years. A very big Thank-You to Mary for all her hard work on behalf of the WIBC.

Anniversary Parties – approx €850 was raised at the House of India and €1,533 at the Grand Café from ticket sales and raffles. Well done to all those members who arranged these great evenings, organized the raffles and donated prizes – many thanks to you all!

Grand total – the unofficial total in the WIBC account is in the region of €9,500 +

The finance committee vetoed paying a €2,000 cheque to Ana Vasbinder for the Javea shelter, as firstly Ana is no longer a council member and secondly we have no control over where the money is spent.

The idea of the Emergency Fund was whole-heartedly supported, so long as a small sub-committee of 3 to 5 members is informed of exactly where the money is needed.

Calpe Social Services had asked the WIBC to financially support a multi-lingual poster campaign with an emergency phone number. However, one of our member’s experience of  Calpe’s Social Services was that they had no back-up services (she was just told to change the locks), so this will be put on hold until we can liaise further with the Social Services.

Anniversary Parties:

Both parties were a huge success, although it was expressed that it would have been nice to have one big party for all members.

Lessons to be learnt

Free entry for children under 12 should be lowered to under 5, as a the older children took a lot more food than the adults and then left it.

Tickets need to be for sale several weeks in advance in order to be available at both meetings.

Reservations cannot be taken without payment – we lost a lot of money at the House of India where people had reserved places and didn’t turn up, but we still had to pay the restaurant. This has happened several times before! In future if people have not paid by 4 days before the event they lose their places and the tickets are given to people on the waiting list.

Also ticket sellers were running around in their cars trying to meet up with members to deliver tickets. A possible solution is that members pay directly into the WIBC bank account and then pick up their paid tickets at the door?

WIBC as an official Association:

Members agreed with a suggestion that the WIBC should now be registered officially. A new member suggested that a way round this could be to affiliate the WIBC with another official group (such as Action Aid or whoever).  Member’s comments and suggestions would be gratefully received for this to be discussed at a later meeting. Send to admin@WIBC-Spain.com

Extra Meetings:

Members suggested we have extra meetings in the evenings, for example, other than for networking - for education, brainstorming, socials!

Savita held a “girlies nite” at her house on Tuesday where members were invited to bring along their products to sell to friends etc. Food and drink was also donated and it was a very relaxed, enjoyable evening.

Post your invitations on “Notice This” on the WIBC website.

“Notice This”

It was requested that these notices be sent to our e-mails as in the past, as not many of us make the effort to go into the website and read them. However, Karla replied that due to the high number of these messages being returned by member’s spam filters and junking up the system this is no longer possible.  So it’s up to us, girls, to make that effort!!
