Success for Women’s Special Day

Hundreds of people flocked to Altea last weekend to celebrate International Women’s Day 2006 and help make the second trade show a bustling success.

Organised by the Women in Business Club, the day was very much a family occasion with people travelling the length of the Costa Blanca to attend.

And the Melia Villa Gadea hotel and spa was packed with almost 90 very different stands featuring the diverse products and services of businesses run by members in the region.

Russell Thomson, the British Consul, toured the halls and said he was ‘’very impressed’’ with the enterprise of the businesswomen and the feel good factor of the show.

Money raised from the event will continue to support shelters for women and children in the area which provide a refuge for victims of domestic violence.

LIVE STAGE

The live stage became a central focus of the event and it was standing room only for music, speeches, dance, fashion shows, and a property auction.

As ever, the prize draws a popular attraction with plenty of takers for raffle tickets, while the food and drink stalls did a roaring trade.

Karla Daracos, the president of WIBC, was delighted with response to the club’s second celebration.

‘’It’s fabulous,’’ she told Round Town News. ‘’Everything has gone very well today and everyone is enjoying themselves.

‘’The club is doing amazingly well and show what can be achieved with women helping women.’’

AWARENESS

And she said the event also helped raise awareness of social problems and issues such as domestic violence.

‘’We are helping each other, but we are also helping women and children who cannot be free and are the prisoners of these problems,’’ added Karla.

Funds raised by the club were banked and being used to replace essential equipment at the shelters.

‘’When something breaks down we can go and buy a new one,’’ she said. ‘’We know exactly how our money is spent.’’
