The
sun shined but stayed high above the beautiful tall green trees in the
"Marques de Campo", high street of Denia. The WIBC couldn't
have been better placed for those who attended the Exhibition of
Associations - sponsored by the township of Denia. There was a
bar/restaurant strategically placed opposite to us and an ice cream
parlour just up the street behind us.
I
arrived at 9.30am and met up with Karla Darocas (WIBC Director).
Together we set up the stand. The townhall had supplied tables and
chairs, along with a nice white tent with open sides and in back of us -
a fencing to hang things on.
We
put up our super new WIBC banners, and then covered the tables in white
paper. Then we stuck-up lots of WIBC flyers and attached helium balloons
with WIBC written on them - kindly donated to us by Susanna Mace of
"Globos Locos". The tent was clearly visible and easily
spotted because of the balloons. People commented on how they could see
us from a way off, so this is perhaps a good thing to remember for
future events for WIBC and anyone else who is in an
exhibition/show.
Karla
put up some of her small paintings along the back fence. We added to the
table flyers and business cards of anyone who attended or had managed to
send some with a friend.
A
new member Susan Sanjuan came all the way from L'Elianna near
Valencia and displayed her, "Aloe Vera" Forever Living Products.
I would say that she was very successful since she was kept busy most of
the day and didn't leave until late afternoon. Also she had arranged
with some of the other associations, ie; cancer - etc to give talks on
the healing values of "Aloe Vera", in the future.
The
townhall supplied us with 5 vouchers for free "bocadillos",
fruit & water, although cooler boxes and lunch bags were in
evidence.
The
morning was very busy and we gave out lots of fact sheets on WIBC. We
were visited by Susanna Meffford Pritchard from Denia townhall and the
new representative from the "International" department of the
townhall. He was a nice fellow - whose name at this moment escapes me -
but I will advise after I have attended this weeks "Denia Women's
Council", meeting. Susanna was happy to see us there.
We
were also interviewed by a lady reporter from "Costa Blanca
Nachrichten" and photos taken.. The reporter/photographer from the
Spanish weekly newspaper "Canfali - Marina Alta", also took
photos and carried away our flyer ,which was in English and Spanish. The
stand received visits from many nationalities including Spanish,
English, German even some Russian girls.
The
Mayoress of Denia visited in the afternoon with another female
councillor and said how happy she was to know we wanted to help.
Next
to our stand was the Association for Sugar Diabetes. A nurse was there
all day testing people. I was OK and so was the Mayoress!!!! Other
members were tested too and everyone came up fine.
The
stands in the street were quite varied covering Sport, Culture, Social,
Health. There were various displays throughout the day and all-in-all I
think those who came to help or visit enjoyed themselves. A popular spot
was the Cuban stand where several "Mojitos" found there back
to us. This is a delicious drink, made of Havana Club Rum, Sugar, Mint
leaves, Fresh Limes and soda water. Great for summer parties.
I
took along an oriental candle bridge to raffle. Although we didn't push
too much we still raised 35 euros. Bulk of this down to Bernadine
Davis-Turpin who waylaid hunky patrol men to empty their pockets..
A
BIG Thank You to all the members who came along and helped or visited. A
special thanks to those who gave up several hours of the precious Sunday
to be there.

- Ingrid
Kuijpers of BOB CATS Insurance who along with Nancy and helped me to
dismantle the stand - at the end.
Also to any of the other ladies I have
not mentioned who unfortunately took their info & flyers away with
them when they left and I am unable to remember everyone's names. Thank
you too!
And
of course to Karla, long rule to
paperclips!!! Inside joke relating to hanging up her artwork in our
stand - in the end - she untwisted some paperclips to make hooks.
In conclusion, I believe we let a lot
more people know about the WIBC and what we do and hopefully may have
some new members for the future.
All the best
