REPORTS by Elaine
Barclay & Sue Coley
We
all met in the warmth and hospitable surroundings of Five Star on the
Arenal. Everybody was in great spirits which was help along by hot mulled
wine served up by Toby. Villa Angels sold raffle tickets to the carol
singers and anybody else who they could get their hands on for a prize
donated by Anita of Five Star which was a beautiful Christmas Hamper.
Armed
with candles, carol sheets, hats and gloves we set off along the Arenal
calling in at various pre-arranged locations. Sue Coley and Mary Murphy
led the way collecting the money and did a fabulous job. Mary Lucas kept
her keen eye on the proceedings. At Café Mar we were served once again
with Hot Mulled Wine, which was lovely as it had started to turn cold on
the Arenal.
At
Javea Park we were accompanied by music as it was coincidentally Karoke
Night at Wonka Bar.
After
approximately 2 hours we arrived back at Five Star, warmed up, counted the
money and drew the raffle prize.
I
am delighted to announce that we collected 880 euros which was given to
Mary Lucas. This is 120 euros more than last year.
Many
thanks to all who made the night a success.
Merry
Christmas and a Happy,
healthy New year,
Elaine

This
eventful evening began at the Five Star Restaurant on the Arenal. Anita
the owner, welcomed us all with ‘hot toddies’ to fortify us for the
night.
Over
30 people with lights, candles, and carol sheets braved the cold and
walked a long way around the Arenal, to Javea Park, the Cabo De Nao Road
and back again. Although there were not many customers about- the
determined carollers found most of them as they visited many of the Bars
and Restaurants. Everyone gave donations generously, and many more bought
raffle tickets for the Christmas hamper prize.
The
highlight of the evening was our visit to Wonka’s Bar, where the well
known DJ Daryl provided the backing music and words on the screen for our
singing. The roof was nearly raised by the magnificent voices, as well as
our spirits!
Café
del Mar kindly gave us another ’hot toddy’ when we were half way
through the night, to keep up our energy for more singing.
Eventually,
a few hours later with sore throats and sore feet we all arrived back at
Five Star and counted the donations. We were thrilled to find we had
collected around 880 Euros- even more than last year. Anita announced the
raffle draw, and we all sat down for a well earned drink and rest.
Thanks
to Elaine Barclay for the terrific arrangements she made and for providing
the Carol sheets, A huge ‘thank you’ to Anita, Toby and the Staff at
Five Star- your hospitality was much appreciated. Well done everyone who
took part- a great effort that produced rewards in so many ways.
