This year's Christmas
Concert was a fun filled variety show and was held at Calpe's famous
Marcia's Dance School, which is owned by Marcia Vaugh of the WIBC.
The organizers did a
fabulous job of making sure that there was lots of drinks, wine and food
included in the 10 Euro ticket price. There was also a Tombola - filled with
tickets connected to a hundred prizes.
The evenings variety
show was undertaken
by Onda Cero celebrity
hosts - Hugh and Beverly Stewart . They launched into the event with a
humorous "Night Before Christmas" poem that had the crowd in
stitches.
First
up in the entertainment, and with a big round of applause, out danced the
exotic Shona Hagan, our regional
belly-dancer.
She charmed
the crowd with her glamorous dance techniques.
Next came John Anthony
on classical guitar.
Always calm and
collected, John serenaded the crowd
with his magical musical melodies. Then he introduced his charming wife -
Suzanna Mace - and they performed their Spanish session. Suzanna
danced and stomped and twisted her way around the dance floor, and after several costume changes, the last being a real "teaser in pink",
Suzanna and John wrapped it up and the crowd went wild.
Shona came back out on
stage and shook up the crowd with another dance number.
This was followed by
John and Suzanna introducing a keyboard to their act and rocking out some
dance tunes, which of course got the crowd onto the dance floor and
twisting.
The Grand Prize Draw was
a lucky dip affair conducted by Hugh and Beverly and a little seven year old
boy, with a black eye (school accident) named Eliot. Again, there were many,
many prizes but the big bonanza prize was a Romantic Trip for Two to Granada
- sponsored by Gandia Travel in Calpe.
This
romantic adventure was won by Ken & Muriel Barlow, who live six
months in Calpe and six months in Clevleys near Blackpool.
According
to WIBC member Kim Bramham, who sold them their winning ticket, this lovely
couple have had a very unlucky year. Muriel has had cancer and has been
recovering from that and recently she fell and broke her arm.
"They were soooooo
happy to have won the weekend away, that they could not believe it, "
explains Kim. "They were lost for words, that finally something good
had happen to them."
The Barlows had never
been to a charity night before or a social evening in Calpe. They thought
the whole night was really good and they are most likely going to start
dancing at Marcia's in the future.
"Bless
them!!", remarks Kim. "I feel we (WIBC) have given these lovely
people a new lease of life and hopefully they will have better luck from
this day forward!"
To
wrap up the night, the Phantom of the Opera (Bill Kirk) plunged into some
dramatic musical numbers. His voice was a hit with the ladies, bringing a
tear to an eyeball or two.
Congratulations to all
the ladies from the Calpe club who worked on this event. Carole Saunder, Kim
Bramham and Christa Ayoob - plus their assorted husbands and friends -
really made this event a friendly and fun extravaganza.
