DVD TO WOMEN’S  SHELTER – DENIA
Report by Candy Wright.

Months ago at a meeting in Javea, I reported that the Denia Apartment for Women and children was now at last open . The apartment really serves as a half way house and is the next step on from being in a shelter. The apartment has a psychologist in attendance for the women and children should they need to talk things through, and in Spain it is called a “Tutored Apartment”. The women are helped to find their way in the world and to find work and to gain their self-esteem back again. Everything is there for them to be comfortable and be able to start a new life in a new area, hopefully SAFE.

Whilst I was at a monthly “Women’s Council” meeting at Denia town hall one of the ladies informed us on how the apartment was up and running but they had overlooked an item they considered a need for small children to keep them entertained sometimes and that was a DVD player. I brought this to the Javea meeting and one of our ladies Sandy Tsalikidis very kindly donated the money and told me to go and buy one for them.

Unfortunately due to Denia not being the most economical of places, it took a while for me to find one within our budget, but finally SUCCESS, and as soon as I was able to, I delivered the new DVD player to the person who would then take it to the apartment. I was unable to do this personally, since for obvious safety reasons, the actual location of the shelters and apartments is kept secret.

Denia has now opened another of these apartments and are very much behind the care of these women and children. Let's give whatever help we can, when we can. It feels good to know every little bit counts.

Thanks again Sandy Tsalikidis
