BAKE SALE
REPORT Once again we had some very generous and delicious contributions to the Bake Sale and made a profit of 581 euros, which is a new record. Jane Nolan, Elizabeth Kent and Lyn Rose ran the stall with great efficiency and a huge ‘thank you’ goes to them for their time so freely and willingly given and for their own contributions to the stall. They are not members of WIBC but volunteered to help us and we are very grateful. Another special’ thank you’ goes to Ann Martin for cooking and donating an abundance of ‘Krafty Party’ cakes. Many thanks, also, to Claire Cunningham and her ‘Mum’ who both cooked all day the day before to produce another great assortment of goodies, I understand Claire’s ‘Dad’ was on baby sitting duty with Evie. Karla donated a fair share of flax-licious delights for which we thank you, too! We also had cooking contributions from other WIBC members and from friends and acquaintances outside WIBC and still more thanks goes to them. If I haven’t mentioned any one else who made a special contribution, my apologies. I’d like to give a personal ‘thank you’ to Mrs. Betty Rodgers who, despite the death of her husband less than a month ago and in her 80’s herself, came from Albir with her son and family to support us and gave a donation of 10 euros in lieu of the cakes she had originally intended to bake for us. The Ladies running the stall kept pretty much to the Hotel’s rules and didn’t slice up the large cakes and reported that the smaller items sold much more easily although everything went in the end. Maybe, as the Hotel want us back next year, they will look more kindly on us by relaxing their stipulations! In any event, we will be suggesting/requesting more jams, pickles, and marmalades etc., (so get cooking now!) also ‘safe’ savouries as well as the usual cakes, breads and biscuits. We had many more shop bought items this year and whilst understanding that there are members among us who don’t cook, I have to say that ‘shop bought’ doesn’t sell. Carole Saunders took a large boxful to Emaus. I’m going to propose that next year we call the stall ‘Home Made Produce’ to dispose of the myth that only baked items are acceptable and give a wider interpretation of what can be made and sold. Also, anyone not wishing to ‘home cook’ may give a donation instead. Over all it was a successful operation and if we can build on the lessons we have learnt this year we will be even more successful next! We may even entice some of the reluctant cooks out of their comfort zone so that they can surprise themselves with their own prowess!
