BUYS NEW TUMBLE DRYER FOR CHILDREN’S SHELTER IN CALPE Report by Carole Saunders - article written by Karla Darocas April 06
Calpe
resident, Carole Saunders, who is the acting liaison between the WIBC and
EMAUS, informed the members of the WIBC that a tumble dryer was needed for
the shelter. The fact being that the shelter has no outside line for drying
clothes, and relies on a tumble dryer - daily. “Over
the winter months, I had popped into the shelter several time, and each time
it resembled a Chinese laundry with clothes everywhere,” explains Mrs
Saunders. “The social worker at the shelter explained that their tumble
dryer was broken.” With
nine children to attend to, the social worker was clearly in a bad way, and
the women of the WIBC jumped at the chance to help. So, within two days, a
cheque to buy the tumble dryer was in hand. And,
as women will be women always in search of a good bargain, Mrs. Saunders
used her network of friends to find the best value for the money. She
reports, “I
was having a coffee with my friend Beverly Stewart, from OCI radio and a
WIBC member, and explained that the WIBC were going to buy a tumble dryer
for the Calpe EMAUS house. I had shopped around and sourced various types of
dryers and their prices, and decided on one that held a load of 7.5 kg,
which is the maximum available. Beverly suggested we talk to her friend Lola
Llinares who works for Bertomeu in Calpe. Lola is a very talented artist and
Beverly and her husband Hugh had helped her in the past by securing the
Exhibition Hall at the Casino
Villajoyosa
for her and another well-known artist, Luis Serna.” As
one good deed turns another, Lola Llinares was delighted to help and
arranged a very good price for the tumble dryer, offering a discount of 100
euros. The
WIBC would like to thank Beverly Stewart and Lola Llinares for helping out.
Together, we can make a difference! -end- Photo
